Working/learning in a real work place is better than learning in a classroom for me.
My first full-day practicum has started yesterday. I work/study from 8 am to 5 pm, the same length as my mentor works. The routine seems like to be very predictable everyday. It would get boring maybe in the future, but there are so many moments when I can see children's development. I was in a centre only for 2 days. An asian girl, who didn't speak very much to anyone on the first day, she started to be around where I go. I was talking to her when other children were playing by themselves or with other ECPs. I read her stories, etc. Today, she was more talkative than yesterday. I was very happy to see her talking. My mentor and other ECP told me that she didn't speak English at all before I was in the centre. I was so surprised at what I heard from them because she was talking to me in English. I told my mentor and other ECP that she maybe started to talk to me because of our racially similar looks. My mentor said "maybe" and I wasn't sure why, either. I hope she will interact with her peers more in the future.
I am tired, but I intaracted with a lot of children. It was all fun. The centre I am at is very nice and I hope I will absorb many things from my mentor and other ECPs.
Well, my blog today becomes a bit like an assignment journal that I have to do (and I will use what I typed here for the journal. lol)

What a sweet story about the girl opening up because of your presence.
I wonder if she's ever had an Asian face give her problems because of her ability with English -- I doubt it. Makes complete sense to me that she would be more comfortable with her English with someone (you) who is less likely, in her experience, to be judgemental of her, perhaps?
Anyway, nice story.
