カナダで全国展開しているデパートというとThe Bay、Sears Canada、そしてHolt Renfrewの３つしかない。
このデパートのうちHolt Renfrewは高級路線で服飾のみの取り扱いだ。残りのThe BayとSears Canadaは総合デパートだけれど、いまいち垢抜けない。品揃えは日本のイトーヨーカドーの方が全然上だと思う。
Holt Renfrewを除き、改造計画を勝手に提案したい（笑）
- The BayとSears Canadaともに売っている商品がかぶりすぎている。商品の差別化をしてもらいたい。
- 両方のデパートとも売り場面積は結構広い。ただ、使い切れていない。いらない場所を店舗から外す。空っぽ感をなくすため。
- 食料品コーナーを設ける。トロントに限って言えば、２つのデパートとも地下鉄直結など、ダウンタウンの便利なロケーションに立地している。その周りに大型で食料品を買える場所が実はない。ビジネスチャンスと思わないのだろうか。
- 意外性を消費者に見せ、大胆に変身する。
誰が経営者か知らないけれど、もうちょっと盛り上げて欲しいものである。
There are only 3 major department stores in Canada that has a nationwide chain. Those are the Bay, Sears Canda, and Holt Renfrew.
In these 3 department stores, Holt Renfrew differentiates itself as a high-class apparel department store. The other 2 are a real department stores that sell from home appliances to apparels. Yet, those 2 don't have enough quality of things to sell. Comparing to those 2, I think Japan's Ito-Yokado has far better quality.
Except for Holt Renfrew, I would like to give those 2 department stores some some suggestions without being asked by anyone (lol).
- Differentiate goods that are sold at those 2 stores - they usually sell almost the same stuff (brands, manufacturers, etc)
- The store floor for the both stores is quite spacious but they don't use it fully - they could close down some parts of their stores to get rid of emptiness at the stores.
- Have a grocery floor - they have stores in such convenient locations where are connected the subway stations directly (especially in downtown Toronto). In fact, there are no major grocery stores near those 2 department stores. Why don't they take it as a business chance?
- Change the store by showing consumers elements of surprise - having a grocery store on site is one of them.
I don't know who manages those 2 department stores, but I would like them to show us some improvements...
