There are many events happening through a year in Toronto. Especially in summer time, we have even more events everyday and every week.
This week, Pride Toronto is being held.
Pride week is a week for awareness campaign for sexual minorities (gay, lesbian, transgender, etc) and their families. This event is held every year at the end week of June. During the week, there is always something happening everyday. Toronto is one of the cities, that have the best community services and resources to those sexual minorities, among other North American cities like New York, San Francisco, Montréal and so on.
At the end of the pride week, Church street, where Toronto's gay community is located, are closed down from the traffic and becomes pedestrian-only street. Yonge street, which is a main street of Toronto, will be free of vehicles, too, to have a parade on the following sunday. The weekend becomes just a festival for the people in Toronto and visitors from neighbouring municipalities and other regions in Canada and the US. This festivity contributes to Toronto's economy tremendously every year.
However, the city workers' strike is still going on. Garbage boxes on streets of Toronto are starting to smell really bad. It is very miserable.
I understand that it is a right for labours to have a strike, but I wonder why the city workers always pick a bad season for us, regular citizens – garbage collectors have a strike in summer time and TTC workers have a strike in a freezing season. I beg city workers to have a strike in a time when it doesn't affect many people.
I don't want them to forget that they are getting paid by our tax money, whether rich or poor...
