どたキャン | Canceled on the Same Day

「どたキャン」の英語の表現を知らない。
その表現を知らなくても生活ができているので、語彙の中でそんなに重要ではない言葉なんだろう。

日勤の時、僕は午前６時半頃に起き、シャワーを浴びたり浴びなかったりで、コーヒーをブラウンのコーヒーメーカーで作り、ベーグルとゆで卵と野菜１種の朝食を食べ、身支度をしてから８時前に家を出る。

ちょうど地下鉄に乗った時だったのだろう。トロントの地下鉄には携帯の電波は届かない。今日、会う約束だったミルトン（トロント郊外の町）に住む友人から電話があったらしいと、会社に着いてから、ボイスメールのアイコンが着いているのに気付き、ボイスメールのアナウンスでわかる。

友人の子供の調子が悪いらしいので、今日は出かけられなくなったとの事だった。
仕方ない。今日は会社全体で昼からピクニックに行くのだが僕は参加しないので午前中のみの勤務になっている。行かないでおこうと思っていたジムだったけれど、一度家に帰って昼食を摂ってから行こうと予定を変更した。


I don't know English expression for dota-kyan. dota-kyan is a Japanese word made from a Japanese word, dontanba (means suddenly, immediately etc) and an English word, cancel. Even though I don't know the expression in English, I can live in this English speaking world. I assume that it is not an important vocabulary that you must know.

When I work daytime, I get up at around 6:30 am. I sometimes take a shower or not. I make coffee with Braun coffee maker and have a breakfast of a bagle, a hardboiled egg and a kind of vegetables. After dressing and grooming, I leave home at around 8am or earlier.

I guess it was time when I just got on the subway. Cell phone is not available on the Toronto subway at all. I noticed the icon of voicemail on my cell phone when I arrived at my office. The voicemail was from a friend of mine who lives in Milton (a town in the suburb of Toronto).

The voicemail was that her daughter looks ill so she needs to cancel meeting today.
"Well, when someone is sick, he/she needs to stay home no matter what."

My company will have a company-wide picnic this afternoon but I am not participating with it. I will have my afternoon off. I didn't bring stuff for the gym because I thought I wouldn't have time today, but I will go back home to have lunch and go to the gym later.
