極東 | Far East

極東という言葉、ヨーロッパ中心の地図から見た言葉。Down Underと同類の言葉。

天皇皇后両陛下がカナダにやって来た。すごく久方ぶりだそうだ。
トロント・スターという新聞があり、そこに記事が載った。

カナダの新聞のサイトには記事に関して匿名・仮名でコメントができるようになっている。
この訪問の記事にも３ページものコメントがついていた。

コメントの最後の方はやはり第２次世界大戦の歴史に辿り着いていた。
その戦争の事実と歴史は強大に過去の人たちに影響を与え、６５年後の現在の人たちにも影響を与えている。

その戦争の間、人の行いの善悪を問わず、よほど多くのエネルギーが世界中で費やされたのだろうと容易に推測できる。

スター紙にコメントした人たちがわかっていない、天皇についてとカナダ訪問についてと日本国憲法についての３つの事柄がある。

1. 天皇は日本の象徴としての首長であり政治的な権限は全く持っていない。
2. 訪問は友好の訪問であり、具体的で政治的なものへの関係は全くない。
3. 日本国憲法には、他のどの民主的な国とも同じように、主権は国民にあるとされている。また、天皇は日本国または日本国民の象徴としてのみ存在し、いかなる国政への関与も認めていない。これは皇族が選挙権を持っていないということである。

一国の首長だからと興奮する必要がないと言うことである。
(注：首長という言葉を使ったけれど、天皇の存在についていまだにいろいろな意見があるそうです。）

朝鮮半島と日本が真ん中になっている世界地図から北米を見れば、北米は極東にあたるということを覚えてもらえれば、より良い世界に少しはなるかもしれない。

天皇は旅行でカナダを訪れる人たちと同じただの訪問者である。


Far East, the word that was made by looking at the world centering Europe – it is similar to Down Under.

Emperor and Empress of Japan came to Canada. It's been a long time since the last visit.
There is a newspaper called Toronto Star. There was an article regarding their visit.

In Canadian newspaper site, you can leave a comment anonymously regarding an article.
There were 3 page long comments regarding this article of their visit.

At the end of the comments, people were, of course, talking about the World War II.

The facts and history during the war enormously influence people in the past as well as people in the current world after 65 years.

Whether it was a good thing or a bad thing in humanity, during the war, it is easily assumed that enormous energy was spent all over the world.

There are 3 things that those, who commented in the Star regarding the article, didn't know about Japanese Emperor, his visit to Canada, and Japanese constitution.

1. Japanese Emperor is a head of state of Japan as a symbol of unity of Japan with no political power at all.
   
2. Japanese Emperor and Empress visit is just a friendly visit with no tie to concrete politics at all.
3. In Japanese Constitution, sovereign power resides with the citizens of Japan like other democratic countries and the constitution also states that the Emperor is only a symbol with no authority to govern Japan as whole. This means that any members of the Japanese imperial family don't have a right to vote.
   

There is no need to get freaked out at him as an individual at all.
（Note: I used the word "head of the state" but there are still so many discussions about the Emperor's state in the contemporary Japan among scholars in Japan.)

In case, people misunderstand the post-war contemporary Japan.

The world may look better if people can remember that North America is far east in the world map which has Japan or Korean Peninsula as a centre.

After all, they are just visitors to Canada the same as tourists visit Canada.
