My friend, R, in Osaka is the oldest friend I have. Although I don't remember how we became such close friends each other, I was in the same class as he was in the second year of junior high school (equivalent to grade 8 in Canada). We had such a great time (bad things and good things) for a year until he had to move to a rural area in Kansai region with his parent. We liked the same music band and we went to a concert of the band together. We went to Namba (a core of city of Osaka) to shop together. We went to see movies together. I frequently skipped cram school (studying for entrance exams for high schools) classes. I learned how to smoke from him. We went to a karaoke place many times (we had alcohol, too). Anyway, we had so much fun only for the short period of one year.

After he moved from Osaka, I felt a loss of really good friend. I resumed going to the cram school and I didn't really enjoyed the last year of junior high. We kept contacts each other. I have visited him and he came to Osaka often to shop or go to concerts for a day. After high school, he moved back to Osaka by himself to go to a school, but I left for Texas to study English. After I came back from Texas to live in Osaka as a so-called freeter we started to hang out often again.

After a quite while since I moved to Canada, we are still contacting each other via emails. Until recently, we didn't know that we belong to the same sexuality. We had never talked about it when we were playing. Coming out happened suddenly in exchanging emails. He is now a drag queen in Osaka, rather more fashionable and not-grotesque-at-all when comparing to ones in Toronto. He has a main professional other than doing a drag, but I feel that I would someday watch him on Kansai regional TV programs. His drag name is berryBerry :)

Rは中学からの唯一の親友です。よくもまあこんなに長く続く友人関係もあるものです。中２の時に同じクラスになり、彼が翌年親の都合で大阪から引っ越すたった１年の間に、善くも悪くもいろんな楽しいことを知ったりやったりしました。難波へ買い物に行ったり、映画を観に行ったり、タバコを吸ってみたり、カラオケボックスに行ってお酒を飲みながらカラオケしたり、コンサートに行ったり、塾をしょっちゅう休んだり。

彼が大阪から越した後、僕はかなり落ち込み、やることがないので塾にまた通いだし、あんまり楽しく中３を過ごした覚えはありません。越した後も連絡を取り合うことはなくならず、彼を訪れに行ったり、彼がコンサートや買い物に大阪に来たり。彼が高校卒業後大阪の専門学校に通うために戻って来たとき、僕はテキサスに語学留学し、その後僕が大阪に帰って来てフリーターをしだしてから、またよく遊ぶようになったりと交遊は途絶えませんでした。

僕がカナダに越して来てかなり経ちますが、未だにメールでやり取りをたまにします。日本ではセクシャリティについて語り合うなんてこと（少なくとも当時（９０年代後期））はあり得ないことだったので、語り合うこともせず。最近になってようやくカミングアウト的なことがお互いのメールのやり取りで起き、おもしろいこともあるもんやとしみじみ思ったりもしました。

その友人は大阪でドラァグクィーン（日本語にある「それ」を指すカタカナ英語が嫌いなのであえて英語の言葉をそのままカタカナで）をやってます。トロントでみるドラァグよりも繊細でファッショナブルな気がします。ま、副職でやっているみたいです。いつか関西ローカルの番組に出そうな気がして（その時はゲストで読んでもらおう！（笑））
