JR Central (one of the privatised companies of the former national railways of Japan) has a plan to build a linear motor Shinkansen line from Nagoya to Tokyo (about the same distance from Calgary to Edmonton or From Toronto to Ottawa, I think) on their own by 2025.
This project is not a government-based project. A privatised company is going to build the line.
I had a book that showed all about trains when I was small.
There were illustrations of this linear motor trains as an image of the future.
I remember I was so excited about seeing the illustrations.
Now, I am somewhat a boring adult. I start to think if this is necessary for the regions in Japan - "how about the cost?", "how about the environmental assessement?", and even "do we really need this new Shinkansen as we have rail (iron) electric Shinakansen (that can speed max 300 km/h or so) and air planes.
If we can use this linear motor technology as a power to take off for air planes, this will reduce massive air and noise polutions?
I like dreaming. I am a day-dreamer, looking at the sky through windows in a class room.
The future that I dreamed, in my childhood, hasn't arrived yet.
